What is Avenue of Flags?

The Avenue of Flags program is a fundraising initiative for the Optimist Club of Foley’s scholarship programs and the Taste of South Baldwin. The program sees members of the Optimist Club install displays of American flags on major federal holidays. Subscribers pay an annual fee, and the Club handles the placement, retrieval, and storage of the flags. The program promotes patriotism, supports Youth programs, and raises funds for the Club’s activities.

  • Fundraising:

    The program serves as a major fundraiser for Optimist Clubs, allowing them to support youth programs and other community initiatives.

  • Logistics:

    Optimist Clubs manage the entire process, including flag placement, retrieval, and storage, making it a convenient service for participants.

  • Holidays:

    The flags are typically displayed on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.

  • Flag size and placement:

    Flags are usually 3’ x 5’ American flags mounted on 10’ poles.

  • Subscription fees:

    Annual subscription fees are currently $50 per year, per flag.
